Business Requirement

In the rapidly evolving pharmaceutical landscape, ensuring that employees receive effective, up-to-date training is crucial. For Alkem Laboratories, this was a pressing need. Their current LMS was failing to meet their requirements, leading to low learning adoption rates and inefficiencies that could hinder their ability to maintain their position at the forefront of the industry. Alkem required an LMS that could offer:

  • Better User Experience: Alkem needed a user-friendly system that employees could easily navigate, ensuring higher engagement and effective learning. This was crucial for employee growth, as a seamless user experience would encourage continuous learning and drive business growth by enhancing the workforce’s skills and productivity.
  • Mobile Learning: In a global and dynamic industry like pharmaceuticals, employees need access to training materials on the go. A mobile-friendly LMS would allow Alkem’s employees to learn anytime, anywhere, leading to more flexible and accessible training sessions.
  • Configurability: A highly configurable LMS was necessary to cater to the diverse training needs of different departments, from medical sales reps to R&D scientists. This would enable administrators to tailor training programs specific to each role without being overwhelmed, ensuring that every employee received relevant and effective training.
  • Modern-day Capabilities: Incorporating features like Skill Path and Learning Performance Platform (LPP) was vital for Alkem. These capabilities would provide personalized learning experiences, track performance, and help in identifying skill gaps. This would not only enhance employee skills but also align their growth with the company’s strategic goals, driving overall business success.

Key Challenges

Alkem faced several significant challenges that they wanted to address on priority:

  • Poor Learner UI/UX: The current system was not user-friendly, leading to low engagement and adoption rates. This hindered effective learning outcomes, making it urgent to adopt a system that employees would actually use and benefit from.
  • Complex Admin Interface: Administrators found the system difficult to navigate and manage, leading to inefficiencies and delays in training deployment. This complexity was a major barrier to scaling training programs across the organization.
  • Lack of Skill Management: Without functionality to manage skills or provide a skill path feature, employees couldn’t easily identify or follow a clear learning path. This resulted in fragmented and less effective training efforts, impacting overall skill development.
  • Evaluation Complexity: Difficulty in adding and changing evaluating quizzes and courses meant that training content was not updated or relevant. This stunted the ability to measure and enhance learning outcomes accurately.
  • Compliance Management: Managing recurring compliance courses manually was time-consuming and prone to errors. This increased the risk of non-compliance issues that could have severe regulatory consequences.
  • No LXP: The absence of a Learning Experience Platform limited the variety and accessibility of learning resources, reducing the richness and engagement of the training programs.
  • Diverse Training Needs: Different job roles required various types of training, from functional and technical to compliance and professional development. A single, inflexible system couldn’t meet these varied needs, leading to gaps in training and development.

Approach and Solution

Tenneo proposed the ACT variant of its LMS, tailored to meet Alkem’s specific needs with the following features and functionalities:

  •  Enhanced eLearning Modules: Building a comprehensive content library within the LMS made learning content easily accessible. The intuitive channel-based UI improved user experience, leading to higher engagement and better learning outcomes. This directly supported employee growth and, consequently, business growth by ensuring a well-trained workforce.
  • Simplifying Admin Tasks: Integration with AWS Pinpoint service for SMS and email notifications, and Iorad Digital Walkthrough platform for admin use via Single Sign-On (SSO), streamlined administrative tasks. These integrations simplified admin workflows, allowing for efficient training management and reducing overhead.
  • Advanced Assessments: The ability to easily create assessments and generate unique random ones from a global bank ensured that evaluations were up-to-date and relevant. This feature enhanced the accuracy of learning assessments, helping to track and improve employee performance effectively.
  • Mobile App: Enabling learning anytime, anywhere with features for social learning and collaboration increased accessibility and flexibility. Tenneo’s mobile LMS was particularly important for field employees like medical sales reps, ensuring they could continue learning on the go, which improved overall productivity and engagement.
  • Compliance Management: Creating compliance masters within the system allowed for automated management of compliance certifications. This reduced the risk of regulatory issues and ensured that all employees were up-to-date with necessary compliance training, maintaining the company’s adherence to industry standards.
  • On-Job Evaluation: The on-job evaluation feature supported ongoing remedial training and performance evaluations. By automating evaluation processes and gathering multi-level feedback, this functionality ensured continuous improvement and skill enhancement, crucial for maintaining high performance in a competitive industry.
  • Competency & Skill Mapping: The competency and skill mapping framework allowed for the creation of a skills pathway and mapping skills to job profiles. This helped in identifying and bridging skill gaps, aligning employee growth with the company’s strategic needs, and fostering a culture of continuous development.
  • Learning Experience Platform: The LXP integrated external content from providers like Udemy and LinkedIn Learning into the LMS. This expanded the variety of learning resources available to employees, making learning more engaging and comprehensive. The machine learning-based suggestion engine personalized learning paths, enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of the training.
  • Learning Performance Platform: The LPP provided intelligent analysis of the impact of learning on performance metrics. By assessing performance metrics and targeting actionable KPI-based training needs, the LPP ensured that learning initiatives directly contributed to business growth and operational efficiency.
